Launchpad site and PPA for Ubuntu

I’m happy to announce new udev-discover site on Launchpad! This site will handle with bugs, answers and translations. Don’t hesitate to help translating udev-discover to other languages!

Also, in order to make easy for Ubuntu users installing and using udev-discover, a personal package archive (PPA) has been published with a udev-discover debian package linked to GNOME3 Team’s PPA.

Udev-discover has been built with python and using GTK3 through gobject introspection repositories. However, most of these dependency-trail are not available for some general GNU/Linux flavours current releases, as Ubuntu 11.04.

This way it’s really easy to install and use udev-discover for Ubuntu users:

$ sudo apt-add-repository ppa:fontanon/udev-discover
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install udev-discover
$ udev-discover

Enjoy!

    Hi! I’m very glad to see this.

    As you know I’m user and fan of this tool wich I use lately a lot. I was wondering if you could generate the package for Ubuntu Oneric, since I just upgrade to this version and i like to test it ;-)

    Well, actually I tried to rebuild your package for Oneric into another ppa and it was working fine, but I like to have it in the official ppa :-)

    Thanks for the work and happy haking! :-)

    Great! It would be really easy to generate the package for Ubuntu Oneric too into the official PPA.

    In order not to make the effort twice: could you point me the URL for your udev-discover Oneric PPA?

    Thanks!

    Hello Felix.

    Did you try to build udev-discover in other distros? I built it in Fedora 15, with all deps installed, and I had a weird error about a list.

    Where I can report my error?

    Hi @Doraemon

    I haven’t built udev-discover outside debian derivated distros.
    With “a weird error about a list” I guess you’re refering to something like this:

    https://bugs.launchpad.net/udev-discover/+bug/832655

    You could register your error on that bug or open a new one if that wasn’t the problem.

    Hi @Hwr,

    I’ve realized you gently open this bug on Launchpad:
    https://bugs.launchpad.net/udev-discover/+bug/832655

    It’s related a with the buggy way udev-discover deals with unknown usb-class devices and it needs to be fixed.
    We’ll track the bug at Launchpad site. Thank you.

    Thank you Felix, but the bug 832655 isn’t the same erro that I have in my system.

    Python console output:

    $udev-discover
    Traceback (most recent call last):
    File “/usr/bin/udev-discover”, line 562, in
    UDevDiscoverGUI()
    File “/usr/bin/udev-discover”, line 280, in __init__
    self.options['custom_subsystem_preset'].split(‘ ‘))
    AttributeError: ‘list’ object has no attribute ’split’

    I’ll post this error in launchpad as soon as possible; I lost my launchpad password since I installed Fedora in my notebook and I didn’t write it in paper :-P .

    @Doraemon you’re right! it isn’t the same problem.

    I’m annoyed but it seems to be a real bug. We’ll track it on launchpad site. Thanks!
